At the end of the Queen’s funeral, and just before the National Anthem is sung, the bugle call known as “Last Post” will be sounded. In the United Kingdom, this solemn call is their version of what in the United States we know as “Taps.”
Just like “Taps" - “Last Post” now not only signals the end of the day, but for the fallen, the end of their earthly lives. In the United Kingdom, “Last Post” is traditionally followed by a minute of silence which is then followed by the playing of the bugle call for “Reveille,” the first call of the day.
Today, we will hear both.
"Last Post” representing the service of Her Majesty to the Nation has ended and that she may rest in peace. “Reveille" to represent Her Christian belief in the Resurrection and Her Majesty’s rebirth into Eternal Life.
Give rest, O Christ, to Thy Servant Elizabeth Alexandra Mary with Thy saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting. God Save the Queen.
