For 247 Years - Good Men, Good Citizens

November 10, 1775 - While the Second Continental Congress was establishing the Marine Corps in Philadelphia (Happy Birthday Marines!), a small group of students and faculty gathered in rural Virginia to open the winter term of what is now the 10th oldest college in the Nation, and the last established prior to the Declaration of Independence. As such, during the Bicentennial, Hampden-Sydney College was presented by order of Her Majesty The Queen, Letters Patent establishing it's formal coat of arms.
